Close to Spirit

Why do birds suddenly appear
Every time you are near
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you

This song by The Carpenters keeps being inserted into my life recently, ever since I randomly started singing it on Friday as I was leaving the house.

This morning, I finally got it!

I’ve been incredibly busy over the last few weeks working on a project that has resulted in arranging my first working visits to Sweden and Denmark within the next 12 months.

This has all been a small part of my larger 100 Days with Spirit project (today is Day 57).

At the centre of 100 Days with Spirit was my desire to actively do something every day that makes me feel more connected to Spirit – sitting in the power, meditating with Spirit, or simply making the time to be “close”.

Over the last week, while I’ve been buried in the research necessary for these trips, that daily practice has slipped a little. It’s been at the back of my mind that I need to get back to it ASAP.

Then, this morning, I woke from a dream in which I had literally crossed over to the Spirit world… to the soundtrack of The Carpenters.

“Eamon Seix has sadly died.”

That was what the mass card said — a card with my image on it that I was delivering, as a postman, through my mum’s letterbox in Dalkey.

I wasn’t shocked.

I wasn’t frightened.

All I remember was that whallop of realisation you get when you suddenly remember bad news, and the realisation that family and friends would receive the same message.

And then, when I woke up, it clicked.

I was literally delivering messages while literally being with Spirit.

Sound familiar? Oh wait — that’s my job!

Sometimes they don’t use much subtlety to get their point across.

Message received.

Growth

It’s been one of those couple of weeks where loads has happened, but I don’t have much to show for it. I’ve just been busy!

I’ve enjoyed continuing to serve the churches in my diary, arranging future bookings (including a few trips abroad), and looking back over my body of work to reconstruct my list of venues served.

In doing the latter, I’ve been trawling through old texts, emails, messages and social media posts and… wow, I used to have a lot to say! 🤣

I’ve laughed and I’ve cried.

I even found screenshots of an argument I inadvertently started between a load of mediums in the comments of one of my Facebook posts… whoops!

It seems that if I had an opinion about mediumship or Spiritualism, I thought everyone else should know about it too.

One of the wonderful things about getting older is growth.

As I continue to examine my connection with Spirit now, and where I want to take it next, I’m relieved to say I’ve grown out of being that younger version of myself who needed to create those kinds of provocative conversations, or rely on whether I agreed or disagreed with others to reach my own conclusions.

This new chapter of my spiritual journey feels different.

There’s a lot more knowing, and a lot less seeking.

And that feels very… assuring.
